ManpowerGroup Greece, on behalf of its client, an International Technology Services Provider, offering gaming solutions, is seeking for a Senior Database Administrator – PostgreSQL Specialist to join their Platform Engineering Team

Workplace Location: Athens, Northern Suburbs – Hybrid OR Fully Remote (you need to be based in Greece and holder of a valid EU Work Permit)

What you will be doing:

As a Senior Database Administrator – PostgreSQL Specialist, you will be assisting in building self-service tools and high-performance platforms that scale, supporting all customers and products. Also, you will be acting as the technical authority for the company’s database systems, both in production and non-production environments.

Your main responsibilities will be:

Optimizing database performance through indexing and query optimization techniques

Collaborating with software engineering teams in designing, updating, and implementing database schemas

Designing and implementing database monitoring

Reviewing performance logs and metrics and suggesting improvements

Collaborating with the software delivery teams to ensure database-related improvements and enhancements are prioritized as part of their sprints

Working with the rest of Platform Engineering and other teams to schedule, organize and perform database upgrades keeping all systems up to date

Writing technical documentation, including runbooks and incident models for the Support teams, and maintaining knowledge of new technologies and updates for all supported databases

Mentoring/training engineers in writing performant queries and designing systems/schemas that scale

Acting as an escalation contact for high-impact production issues, including out-of-hours

Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity

Requirements

BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, Database Systems or equivalent

5+ years of experience supporting heavy transactional PostgreSQL systems

Proven record of acting at a senior level

Experience in troubleshooting and performance analysis

Performing schema reviews

Mentoring engineering and other technical teams in dos and don`ts

Automation of database installations, configuration, and tuning

Extensive knowledge of at least one currently supported PostgreSQL version (<= 11.x)

In-depth theoretical knowledge of database systems including but not limited to indexes, partitioning, transactions, storage, replication, networking, authentication, clustering, and sharding

Excellent knowledge of database backup and recovery

A demonstrable, good level of knowledge in the following areas

Linux, terminal, and command line tools

Network protocols; HTTP/HTTPS and SSH are a must

Scripting skills (any of Go, Python, Bash, ansible)

Linux Containers, Docker, and associated ecosystem of tools

GitOps (Automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as code)

Excellent English language skills

Experience in any of the following will be highly appreciated

Knowledge of newer versions of PostgreSQL (14 and 15), benefits, improvements, and added functionalities compared to previous versions

Cloud technologies, especially AWS RDS, AWS Aurora, and other AWS

Working knowledge of other database systems both RDBMS and NoSQL (Oracle, DB2, Cassandra, Redis)

Programming experience/background in a major programming language

Kubernetes

Industry-standard tools and technologies like Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Graylog, Grafana, Kibana, or similar
